Tomorrow, 16th September 2005, is anohter significant date.
Not because the government promise that the Bulan Merdeka celebration will *End with a Big Bang*, but rahter, if memory serves me right (and since i did pass Sejarah in SPM, managed a C6, mind you), tomorrow is when Persekutuan Tanah Melayu was aptly changed to Malaysia.
It was supposed to take place on the 31st of August 1963, when Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore will be called Malaysia.
UNfortunately, Indonesia was against it and launched the *Konfrontasi Indonesia* (Pasal Melayu Raya la...).
The event didn't take place until the 16th September 1963. So, there you go, we might had achieved 48 years of independence, but we, as Malaysia, is only in existence for 42 years.
We still celebrate 31st August because that was the original date of Malaya's independence.
And guess who *pulled* out of the Federation on the 9th August 1965 and declared to had *fought* for their independence....
So, you see, National pride and National Day sans Independence Day, National Anthem sans Terang Bulan or Mamula Moon has no so whatever effect to weaken my love for my country.
You younger generation call it what you want (goverment restricting, no freedom etc etc...) and the grass might be greener on the other side (ie migrating or migrated ungrateful people from Malaysia)...Go on, complain as much as you want and say what you like, Malaysia will still be Number 1 until the day my body is covered in Her sand.
Happy Hari Malaysia all.
ps- post made in advance because i'm going to Desaru tomorrow first thing morning!
